FINE ARTS STATEMENT

So much possibility exists in our capacity to melt, distort, and fuse ideas together. The living forms in my images undermine the conventions of physicality that we don't even notice underpinning our perception, and how close or far these subjects are to what is familiar to us creates a whole spectrum of sensations. So this medium generates a lot of freshness, I like to take this and situate it in the tradition of allegory, or some deeper contextual meaning. What iconic images does image X call on? Does image Y allude to something happening in the world? Even in the most mundane works we can tap into the historical charge of image making. So there's an internal and an external depth that I'm really trying to mine with these works. I'm also in the business of making things that look really cool.

To produce a finished image, I will pull from my large pool of sketches. If something really resonates then it is time for that rough image to go through iterations, be it in painting or drawing. I try to focus on the process at hand, solving issues as they come up, but all this stuff is inevitably influenced by pop culture and my own experience of life. I think the really, really interesting thing that can come out of a successful work in this process is a sense of duality, I weave this into pieces in a way that is meant to unfold gradually for the viewer. When a work, done right, is finished, it is imbued with a primal evocation of stillness, upheaval, joy, and dread, all bound in my signature dumb optimism. As of late, I'm sensing a new maturity, where the process sort of implodes in on itself as I become really interested in the nature of the mediums themselves.
